About 22:
New technological resources such a digital transformations of sounds and images have resulted in a variety of challenging multimedia works. In the early 2000s, Arizona State University’s “Arts Media and Engineering” program received NSF funding for a multiyear project fostering a collaboration between dancer-choreographer, Bill T. Jones, composer Reynolds, a team of ASU scientists and a trio of New York-based visual artists. Our aim was to integrate tightly a dancer’s movements with audio and visual materials that his dancing on stage would initiate and transform. The resulting work, 22, involved a “vocabulary” of 22 poses imagined by Jones, poses that triggered musical and visual resources that the remainder of the collaborative teams had generated.
