About:
A watershed is a topographical nature in natural landscapes. The word also has metaphorical extension the include decisive moments moments of change, nodal point in a process at which the nature and direction of flow is redirected. Because 4 is a foundational number in European music history (4-part chorus, string quartets, 4 strings on a cello, …), I decided to employ two pairs on sonic resource: skins and a fanciful set of “oddities”, and metals and a set of 4 wooden snare drums. These pairs have an extended conversation of sorts, the nature of which involves the trading of expressive roles and a contrasted flow after the formal divide of a watershed. Computer-processed sounds add a complementary resonance to the live sounds. – Roger Reynolds
